David Gleason started his working life with Anglo American in what was then
Northern Rhodesia (Zambia). During 22 years with the Corporation he was PA to
Gavin Relly, took responsibility for Anglo’s agricultural projects and some of
its industrial interests.Later, he was a manager at Vaal Reefs gold mine
(Klerksdorp/Orkney) and a divisional manager in Anglo’s gold division (now
Anglogold).
Between 1982 and 1992 he was, variously, a mining analyst and stockbroker (Davis
Borkum & Hare and Mathison & Hollidge), banker and coal mine director.
He turned to journalism in 1992 when he began writing for the Financial Mail
where he first started his acclaimed Torque column as well as writing on a wide
range of business, financial and mining matters.
David is recognised as one of South Africa’s foremost financial journalists and
his Torque column used to appear weekly in Business Day.
David is the owner of Gleason Publications and publisher and editor of two
successful niche publications DealMakers, which covers mergers and acquisitions
and general corporate finance activity, and without prejudice, a corporate law
magazine designed to bring the law into the ambit of business people. Both
magazines are integral to the Gleason Publications stable.
